Medical Records
This past week I was moved into the pediatrics department to enter medical records into their software. I was able to briefly look through the medical records and see what various people are suffering with that come into San Jose. It was a great opportunity to see the format of how doctors order MRIs, X-rays, blood work, etc. While I was entering the records at the front desk I was able to see the various children that came into the department. One that struck me was a boy suffering from diabetes. It is unfortunate that someone so young has to deal with juvenile diabetes on a daily basis. However, I am certain that he will be taken care of with the wonderful doctors and nurses that volunteer at the clinic.

Great Opportunity
This week was my first week back to volunteering at San Jose Clinic. I started last semester and continued throughout the summer but a few things came up to where I was unable to continue volunteering on a weekly basis. I began at San Jose in the Dental Department and shadowing a PA in the medical department. However, when I returned this week the volunteer coordinator gave me the opportunity to work in the lab. I am very excited about this because when I graduate I hope to find a small job in a lab to see if I would like to pursue graduate school in Bioinformatics. I think it will be a great opportunity to work in the lab at San Jose because I will be working with lab reports software and many other things. I am also looking forward to helping the lady that works in the lab. She works there everyday on her own and I would love to help her in every way that I can. I was also offered an opportunity to shadow the doctors in the medical department and enter information into the computer for them. Many of the volunteer doctors do not like to use computers to enter records so the nurses have to do it on top of everything else they have to do. I would like to do this to take the burden off of the doctors and the nurses and also be able to gain experience within patient care. I am looking forward to continuing my volunteer experience at San Jose and help in whatever way I can.
